Underwater Welding Schools

The underwater welding schools that a future welder chooses may mean a better welding job, and a higher paying salary. The school that you attend for underwater welding must be a reputable underwater welding school that offers a certificate upon completion, and also it must offer the commercial diving qualification.

Know What to Look for When Searching for Underwater Welding Schools

There are two major requirements to become an underwater welder:

1.      Physical Diving Exam

2.      Written Test

Check Underwater Welding Schools with the Association Before Making any Decision

When you are reviewing schools for underwater welding, check the list of certified schools with the Association of Diving Contractors.  You can also look at the American Welding Society to do more research on underwater welding schools.

Unfortunately, this is not the type of job that you can try first and then decide if it’s what you want.  Before any person can train as an underwater welder, they must complete the course for commercial diving.

Your work does not end once you find a job as an underwater welder.  You will be required to complete certain qualification tests to improve your performance.  It is up to the Company to decide what requirements they have of their welders. As with any job, the quality of your work will determine what your pay scale will be.

Experienced underwater welders may decide to go one step further, and continue their welding career by becoming and underwater diving specialist.  This job is not for the faint at heart.  You must be physically fit and experienced to even consider applying for this position, and should have taken great care when searching for underwater welding schools.

Ok, so I know what I need to do to become an underwater welder.  Will I get a job? The demand for underwater welders is great due to the physical work and certifications required, however, you must be good at what you do and gain as much experience as you can, as this will determine your success.

The underwater welding salary can be up to $100,000 per year, that being said, it is worth the effort if you are serious about pursuing this line of work.

I would not recommend going to any underwater welding school until you have learned to weld above water.  This will at least test your skill and knowledge, and help you to decide if underwater welding is right for you.

Be Sure and Check Out the Most Popular Underwater Welding Schools

The main technical schools for welding are the Commercial Diving Academy or a community college welding program.

Determining which one will work for you will really come down to the type of welding you want to learn and what is offered. You may discover you want to do dry welding as a career or try working for someone else till you develop some skills.

If you are not into the classroom setting style, there are some welding classed offered online, but you must remember that the best training is done hands-on.  Make sure you research the welding schools in your area before making your decision.

Underwater Welding Schools

The third option is to go straight to the trade union and apply for an apprenticeship. In the final analysis any of the three ways will get you there, you just need to know which will work best for you.

Another suggestion would be to talk to experience welders who have been successful, and find out where they received their training and education.

Underwater welding schools can be found by researching online, talking to people you know, or visiting a welding shop and interviewing some of the better workers.
